The 3mm Cold War wargaming section will concentrate on a hypothetical European Cold War setting in 1989. Currently i am in the process of recreating the West German 1st Tank Division (1. Panzerdivision) stationed around the Hannover region. For the adversary troops i also work on the Soviet 207th Motorized Rifle Division based around the East German city of Magdeburg. Both are built along accurate real world information.

Rules systems used are mostly “Fistful of TOWs 3” (by Ty Beard and Paul Minson) and “Hind Commander” (Assault Publishing).

Emerging from the motorized infantry (“Grenadiere”) of the mid-1950s, the mechanized infantry (“Panzergrenadiere”) formed the mainstay of the West German Army through and beyond the times of Cold War.

Seeing a lot of changes in structure and equipment over the decades, the Panzergrenadiere developed into a highly mobile and well armored asset with decent firepower.

In this article we will have a closer look at the structure, equipment and capabilities of the different battalion types in 1989 and how they can be represented in Fistful of TOWs 3.

Fistful of TOWs 3 – a rules review

Fistful of TOWs 3 (or short FFT3), is a very powerful rules system for 20th and 21st century engagements of roughly company to brigade size. In the book you will find everything to play battles from World War 2 through the Arab-Israeli era, Vietnam, the Cold War right to ultra-modern times.
In this review, we will go through all aspects of the book. If you are into realistic battles set in modern times, you’ll for sure learn to love it as much as i do.
